House 7: exterior finish in July-August 2008

The four painters made short work of complex detailing on the outside. They also painted throughout the inside within 4 days.

In early July, we collaborated with the design team at CB&M to create a landscaping plan. This is our second sketch, adapting the ideas from Murray and the team at CB&M. We are pleased how the angles in the house design are used in the landscaping to create a contemporary look.

There is nearly 100 sq.m. of paving for our future outdoor living. Combined with gravelled areas around the house, we hope to keep the sandy soil outside where it looks best.

The landscaping of the courtyard starts to take shape with a hard base down. Outside lighting is still to be installed.

In the last week, it was all hands on deck. Ken is laying pavers, Dave is working on the retaining wall and the gravel surround. Solar hot water is also being installed.

On the last day of building work, Simon's excavator "smudged out" the last piles of soil and gravel. As he was retreating from the site, the drive is given its final finish and the shed is connected to the new drive. There are large piles of mulch on the right hand side of the picture; we are waiting for the vehicles to stop driving on our new "garden".
