We have two species of snake at Rubicon, lowland copperheads (Austrelaps superbus) and tiger snakes (Notechis scutatus). We usually see around eight individuals a year, mainly copperheads.
Copperheads prefer to feed on frogs. This one is eating a pobblebonk
We have identified two species of lizard, but there may be more skinks. We haven't done any targetted surveys for lizards.
We sometimes see mountain dragons (Rankinia diemensis) near the house. They are incredibly well camouflaged.
Metallic skinks (Niveoscincus metallicus) are very common especially in sandy woodland. Unfortunately they are a favourite prey of the pied butcherbird when hunting near to our ecological burns.
