Rubicon's access tracks
Land management at Rubicon is facilitated by a small network of slashed tracks, including those inside the fences, and some mowed foot tracks. The slashed tracks are clearly visible on recent Google Earth images. Slashed tracks, especially the 35m track around the house, may help as as firebreaks in the event of an unplanned fire, and we use some as fire breaks for our ecological burns. All tracks serve as access routes, at least for our wheelbarrows. Whenever possible, we slash the tracks on higher ground to avoid the flooded ground in winter.

Phil uses a Kubota L-series 44 HP tractor to slash the wider tracks, and a Deutscher XE560 mower to cut the foot tracks.
